You can now play Flight Simulator in Flight Simulator

For Flight Simulator’s 40th anniversary, Microsoft has released a slew of new content, be it airplanes, heliports, or missions. Especially exciting for nostalgics: the flight simulator from 1982 can be played in the current flight simulator via the display of an aircraft.

On November 11, 2022, Microsoft released a major content update for Flight Simulator. New planes, airports, helicopters and heliports and some classic missions were on board. Last but not least, PC gamers were happy with the implementation of FSR 2 and DLSS 3. Of course, it wasn’t long before virtual machine pilots came across a very special Easter Egg: the Flight Simulator from 1982.

You don’t get it as a remastered version or otherwise made executable for modern systems, but in the form of a game within a game. Pilots climbing into a Diamond DA62 can use the Flight Simulator, which is antique from today’s perspective

Easter Egg in Flight Simulator: How to Get the 1982 Original

And how do you get to the Easter Egg? To do this, go to the cockpit view on the tarmac and then to the ELT switch in the lower right corner of the right digital display. Once the switch is activated, the screen on the left changes to a playable version of veteran versions of Flight Simulator. At the top, you can switch between games while controlling the action via an on-screen keyboard.

It’s certainly not the most ergonomic way to gamble, but the Flight Simulator in Flight Simulator should make the fan hearts of older genre connoisseurs beat faster. Once the Easter egg has worked out, virtual pilots will still be able to jump into the rich content of the 40th Anniversary Patch. These are for example the Wright Flyer from 1903, helicopters such as the Guimbal Cabri G2 and the Bell 407 or the four new airports in the form of Hong Kong Kai Tak, Meigs Field in Chicago, Princess Juliana International in Sint Maarten and First Flight Airport in Kitty hawk.
