There is hardly a better known face in German tv show as a presenter and journalist. For decades he leads every year on RTL through the review “People, Pictures, Emotions”. Until now, because from 2022 Günther Jauch will resign as moderator. Someone is now following in his great footsteps that probably no one expected.
Surprise: RTL is now getting him in the TV program
It’s no surprise that Jauch is no longer taking over this year’s edition. The decision was made public as early as November 2021. Still, it should be a bitter disappointment to its regular audience. It is not for nothing that Jauch is a real crowd pleaser. He conducts his programs mainly with a lot of humor, but also with the necessary seriousness and expertise.
What might surprise you instead of his departure is the successor planned by RTL. Because the former federal minister Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg is slated to take over the annual show on December 11, 2022 as part of a duo of presenters. RTL announced this at the end of September (via Focus Online). Together with Thomas Gottschalk, he replaces Günther Jauch in the TV program around the turn of the year.
RTL is also planning streaming formats with zu Guttenberg
With zu Guttenberg, RTL is also planning elsewhere in addition to the TV program. They are currently working together on two 90-minute documentaries intended for streaming on RTL+. One of them takes a close look at President Vladimir Putin and his political actions in Russia.
Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is a former CSU politician and now works as a lobbyist and management consultant. In 2009 he was Federal Minister of Economy and Technology, then Federal Minister of Defense (until 2011). After the plagiarism scandal surrounding his thesis, which cost him his doctorate, he resigned from all political positions in March 2011.
