Owners of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt (test) should receive the free update to the next-gen version on December 14, 2022, as developer CD Projekt has now announced. The corresponding update for the role-playing game released in 2015 was promised at the end of 2020 and has since been successively delayed.

Update in a month, live stream next week

In mid-April 2022, CD Projekt then announced that the remaining work on the next-gen edition would be carried out by its in-house development team. Previously, the Russian location of the Saber Interactive studio was responsible. CD Projekt didn’t reveal exactly why the move was made; however, the reason may be obvious given the Russian war of aggression. Because how much work remains to be evaluated, the developer did not initially mention a new release period.

In May of this year, CD Projekt finally announced on the occasion of the game’s seventh anniversary that the next-gen edition should be released in the current year 2022. And this time the newly set goal can also be achieved, albeit narrowly. Before that, the developer would like to announce more information about the major update, which will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as well as for PC – in the latter case as an automatic update of the GOTY edition via a live stream on Twitch in GOG or Steam next week. CD Projekt has not yet revealed whether it will also be possible to switch platforms free of charge.

Improved graphics and new content loads faster

It is already known that role-playing friends can look forward to improved graphics, including ray tracing, with the next-gen version. Load times should be shorter, especially on the consoles. In addition, there will be some other small additional content that will be inspired by the Netflix series based on the novel by Andrzej Sapkowski. Presumably these are skins or new armor and weapons. And finally, a select few mods will be implemented natively in The Witcher 3. All content changes must be submitted later for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
