The Witcher 3: A major PC update is coming in December

Here’s one of our cockroaches, the next-gen update for The Witcher 3 is finally more specific: CD Projekt Red recently sent out loads of release information, content, and technical upgrades – and we’ll recap them for you. First things first: Yes, the next-gen update may only sound exciting at first glance for PS5 and Xbox Series X, as these are the two next-gen consoles, but the improvements will also land on PC. With new content. So let’s open the box and look inside.

What’s in The Witcher 3 Next Gen Update?

In the first step, The Witcher 3 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X technical upgrades: The game will support ray tracing in the future, have faster loading times on the consoles, and various mods will be natively integrated into the game without having to install them separately.

Also something mechanical is happening: In addition to the mods, The Witcher 3 is getting some new content from the Netflix series. CD Projekt will reveal which ones exactly at the beginning of next week in a live stream, which we will of course give you as soon as possible. However, enhancements like those in Cyberpunk’s Edgerunners patch are conceivable, for example weapons and armor from the series. Also maybe a little new quest. By the way, these content enhancements will also be patched for the last generation versions (i.e. PS4 and Xbox One) at a later date.

What do I need for the next-gen version?

If you own The Witcher 3 on PC, PS4 or Xbox One, you’ll get the next-gen content as a free update. It doesn’t matter which version you own, so you don’t necessarily need the GOTY edition or DLCs, even the basic version will do. There will also be a physical version of the next-gen edition at a later date.

When will the next-gen update come out?

Particularly good news: the next-gen update is coming very soon, on December 14, 2022. So if you want to crumble back to Skellige during the Christmas season to experience real snow, now is the perfect opportunity!
