Time is ticking a little differently on Mars, as a new Omega Speedmaster shows. A very special diamond is up for auction – and other style highlights of the week.

A long day on Mars

In 1962 the first Omega Speedmaster flew into space, in 1969 it landed on the moon and went down in history as the Moonwatch. No terrestrial man has ever run his clock on Mars. Until then, time now bridges one Omega Speedmaster X-33 Mars Timer, which was developed together with the European Space Agency (ESA). Among other things, the model can display the times and time zones on both planets. Because: A day on Mars lasts 39 minutes longer than on Earth. 7000 euros.

Pink diamonds are quite rare and therefore extremely valuable. The stronger their hue, the more attractive the stones. But other properties also determine the price: the cut, the purity and the weight. This copy here, the “The Fortune Pink”, weighing 18.18 carats, is the largest pear-shaped fancy pink diamond ever offered for auction. It will be auctioned on November 8 at Christie’s and could go up to 36 million euros, according to experts. In 2018, another pink (not pear-shaped) diamond already set a world record of 39.1 million euros. The jewelry house Harry Winston was commissioned for “The Winston Pink Legacy”.

The environmentally conscious fashion label already made clothing from recycled plastic bottles when eco was not yet a trend. From 300 euros.

Well, not without reason: as part of this year’s London Design Festival, designer Sabine Marcelis wants to promote interaction between visitors with the installation Swivel, made of stones from the Dutch material brand Solid Nature. The armchairs will remain at the exit of Tottenham Court Road tube station after the festival before being exchanged for the Christmas decorations.
