Several PlayStation Studios work with the Guerrilla Games engine

The technical potential of the Decima engine was impressively demonstrated externally with the action role-playing game “Horizon: Forbidden West”. As Hermen Hulst revealed, several PlayStation Studios are currently working on projects based on the Decima Engine.

Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, has become a much sought-after discussion partner in recent days and was available to answer questions in various interviews.

In an interview with the Japanese Famitsu, he spoke about the projects that are currently in progress at the various PlayStation Studios. According to Hulst, the Decima engine developed by Guerrilla Games enjoys great popularity and is used in several new titles from PlayStation Studios. Hulst did not mention specific names here, however.

Instead, he simply said, “Of course there’s technology sharing. There are several studios that use the Decima Engine from Guerrilla Games. We also value improving our technology and we share this idea with studios.”

Engine is continuously developed

As Hulst added, the developers at Guerrilla Games are taking feedback from their colleagues to heart and are constantly working on improvements and new features for the Decima Engine. The Dutch studio’s engine celebrated its debut with the first-person shooter “Killzone: Shadow Fall”, one of the launch titles for the PlayStation 4 in 2013. The engine subsequently attracted attention with its use in the action role-playing game Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4, 2017).

Third-party partners and studios also used the Decima Engine for their projects, including the 2015 teen horror game “Until Dawn” developed by Supermassive Games and “Death Stranding” conceived by Hideo Kojima and realized by Kojima Productions.
