- A committee of experts in the field of gas and heat has prepared and unanimously adopted a series of recommendations for the federal government, as announced by the Federal Ministry of Economy in Berlin.
- The proposals will be presented Monday morning.
- The experts propose, among other things, a phased model for the gas price brake.
The gas and heat expert committee successfully completed its exam on Monday morning after approximately 35 hours. This was announced by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs in Berlin. “The Commission has prepared and unanimously adopted a series of recommendations to the federal government.”
The Federal Government’s Committee of Experts on Gas Price Brakes wants to propose a phased model to relieve gas customers. On the one hand, this provides for a one-off payment in the amount of a monthly bill this year, on the other hand, quotas at capped prices are planned for companies and consumers for the coming year, as the German news agency learned from Commission Circles on Monday.
The three chairmen, the “economic wise” Veronika Grimm, the head of the Federation of German Industries, Siegfried Russwurm, the chairman of the Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union (IG BCE), Michael Vassiliadis, would make the recommendations in an interim report. to the federal government in the morning, the ministry said.
The federal government wants to address recommendations “immediately and intensively”.
The proposals of the experts from associations, trade unions and science are presented to the public at 10:30 in the morning. A government spokesman said Friday that the federal government would deal with the proposals “immediately and intensively”.
The gas price brake is intended as a central rescue tool for the federal government in the energy crisis. On the one hand, it is intended to make high gas prices more bearable for citizens and businesses, and on the other to provide incentives to save energy, which is still necessary.
The traffic light coalition has announced a “defense shield” of up to €200 billion to support consumers and businesses amid rising energy prices. A gas price brake could lower prices for at least part of consumption to such an extent that private households and businesses are not overwhelmed.
Further deliberations of the committee of experts planned
An “interim report” was announced. Because the tasks of the committee with representatives of associations, trade unions, science and the Bundestag – which is officially called the “Gas and Heat Expert Committee” – go beyond putting a brake on the gas price. Members must also assess the magnitude of price increases due to the loss of Russia’s natural gas supply until spring 2024.
In addition to national support measures, they should also “examine options to dampen price developments at European level, taking into account price formation on world markets”. Further meetings were scheduled for October 17 and 24 and the final results of the work should be available by the end of the month. (sbi/dpa)
