Corona: Incidence in Saarland is increasing rapidly – the value is above the 1000 . threshold

The number of new infections with the coronavirus is apparently increasing unabated. Saarland has by far the highest incidence in Germany. But the value is also increasing there. Information from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 3,249 new infections with the corona virus in Saarland on Friday morning, October 7. The incidence thus falls to 1119.4 (latest: 950). The RKI is not reporting any further deaths related to the pandemic. This means that since the beginning of 1861, people in Saarland have died with or from a corona infection.

With a value of 830.7, the district of Neunkirchen has the lowest incidence in the Saarland. The district of Merzig-Wadern (1541.2) has the highest in the Saarland.

Late registrations and fewer PCR tests distort the current overall picture

However, this information only gives a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts have long assumed that there will be a large number of cases that will not be registered by the RKI – especially because not all infected people have a PCR test. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a bias in individual daily values.

In general, the number of new infections and deaths registered varies considerably from weekday to weekday, as many states do not report them to the RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases later in the week.

The corona figures for Germany

The national seven-day incidence is currently given by the RKI at 577.5 (previously: 462.4). The health authorities in Germany recently reported 174,112 new corona infections and 117 deaths within one day to the RKI. Again, comparisons of the data are only possible to a limited extent due to test behaviour, late registrations or transmission problems.

The RKI has counted 33,826,367 proven infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the start of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.
