Playing PlayStation games on PC: how do you do that?

Games for PS5 and PS4 are also playable on the computer. However, PC gamers face many limitations.

Sony introduced new PlayStation Plus subscriptions in June 2022. Users now have three options to choose from. The premium version offers the widest range and also the possibility to play a selection of games on the computer. This is especially interesting if you want to play titles not yet available for PC, such as “Spider-Man: Miles Morales”. However, PC gamers have to make some compromises when it comes to PlayStation games.

Play PlayStation games on PC with the PlayStation Plus app

The system requirements themselves are quite low because the titles are only available via the cloud: games are not downloaded and installed, but streamed. Therefore, a permanently active internet connection is required, which should also not be too slow. Playing is also the PlayStation Plus App is required, which you can download from the official website. In addition, you have a PlayStation Network account (PSN) and an active PlayStation Plus Premium Subscription.

These are the PC system requirements for the PlayStation Plus app:

Playing games on PC via the PlayStation Plus app: this is how you do it

  • Download and install the PlayStation app. Then start the app and log in with you PSN account On. If you don’t have one yet, create an account.
  • If you don’t have one PlayStation Plus subscription completed, now select a rate. For PC gaming it will: Premium subscription needed.
  • After you one compatible controller connected, you can select a game and start playing via stream.

Restrictions of PlayStation games on PC

However, playing PlayStation games on PC is limited.

  • The PS5’s DualSense controller is not supported, only the DualShock 4 from the previous consoles. Unfortunately, playing with keyboard and mouse is not possible.
  • However, those who use multiple monitors can play PlayStation games only one as main screen can use.
  • The sound output is not through a headset connected to the controller, but only directly via the PC.
  • The required PlayStation app is only for Windows PCs available and not on Mac, Linux, iOS or Android systems.
  • Local multiplayer is supported but is on PC limited to two players.
