Former LoL Developers Bring New MOBA To Steam

Fangs is a new MOBA on Steam and has some interesting ideas. So skip the boring laning phase and go straight to the endgame. There are also two ways to win a match. It is implemented by former developers of LoL and DOTA.

What kind of game is this? In Fangs, you choose a champion and fight with three other players against another team in 4v4. The battles are action packed and entertaining.

The developers themselves describe the main difference between Fangs and the currently great MOBAs LoL and DOTA 2 as bored from the get-go. With Fangs, they wanted to start the endgame right away. So there are some adjustments:

  • There is no landing phase. Instead, you have to fight the other team directly. This should make teamwork even more important.
  • The cards in Fangs are considerably smaller and are somewhat reminiscent of Twisted Treeline, an old card in LoL.
  • All over the map are items that you can collect and use. Some directly affect combat, such as a cannon firing a huge laser beam.
  • There are improvements that allow you to change the skills of champions for each match. An Ice Field can deal more damage, slow you down more, or make you invulnerable while the field is summoned.
  • To win a match you have two options: either defeat the enemy captain four times or defeat a mystical and powerful monster that roams the map.

The developers also emphasize that there are no snowball effects in Fangs. Even if you beat the opposing captain multiple times, the team behind it can easily catch up.

When is the game out? Fangs will be available in Early Access on November 30 on Steam and Epic. It will be completely Free2Play and rely on in-store cosmetics. At the start there are 16 different champions, which are also very diverse and should appeal to every player.

Fangs – Gameplay Reveal

Former developers of the DOTA mod and Riot Games are among them

Who is behind the new game? Fangs is developed by real MOBA veterans. The indie studio was founded by Bao Lam, a former product manager at Riot Games, and David Li, who also worked at Riot Games from 2013 to 2016.

The lead designer is Steve “Guinsoo” Feak, who previously designed the Warcraft 3 map DotA: All Stars and was later hired by Riot Games. He designed the item Guinsoo’s Rage Blade and the champions Ashe, Karthus and Morgana, among others. There are also other former developers of LoL, DOTA 2 and PUBG on the team.

The studio received an initial investment of $3.2 million, as they revealed in 2021 (via Venturebeat). They have now implemented Fangs so that it can start in Early Access.

Who is this interesting for? Fangs is designed to be easy to learn, but hard to master. The developers emphasize that their MOBA is aimed at players who interact intensively with their champions, enjoy action-packed combat and especially behave well in a team. Because alone you shouldn’t be able to do as much in Fangs as in LoL.

The developers also emphasize that there should be balance adjustments every two weeks to keep the gameplay dynamic.

What do you think of Fangs? Does the concept sound exciting or would you rather stick with your favorite MOBA?
