New Cervelo ZHT-5: Cervelo is recognized in the racing bike industry as one of the best manufacturers of lightning-fast machines, winning the Tour de France this year, among other things. Now the Canadian carbon specialists dare to enter the mountain bike sector. Here’s all the info on the Cervelo ZHT-5, which aims to shine on the track as a light cross-country hardtail.

Cervelo ZHT-5: information and prices

Racing bike giant Cervelo is venturing into the mountain bike sector. After the Canadian nobility manufacturer took the gravel bike Aspero off the road, Cervelo is now expanding its portfolio. Designed as a cross-country racing hardtail, the Cervelo ZHT-5 aims to compete for XCO wins under Milan Vader at the 2023 XC World Cup opener in Valkenburg. With 100mm of front travel and a frame weight of 870 grams, the ZHT-5 is definitely on the sporty side of the XC hardtail spectrum. Cervelo’s mountain bike debut will be available in two versions from mid-October 2022.

# With the Cervelo ZHT-5, the Canadians are venturing into unknown territory – the premium brand’s first mountain bike is designed to shine as a fast hardtail on the world’s cross-country racetracks.

We have decades of experience designing bikes that take to the top of the Tour’s top category climbs and then descend to the other side confidently and aggressively. We tried to bring that balance in a bike designed specifically for XCO racing as well. The ZHT-5 will be appreciated by those who value efficiency above all else – and who are able to tackle today’s technical courses without a full suspension. With what we learned from the Áspero, we worked with Team Jumbo-Visma to create an XCO race team and develop a bike that will be immediately competitive when the season starts in Valkenburg next year.

With a frame weight of 870 grams in size M, the ZHT-5 is said to be one of the lightest representatives of the hardtail guild. So the direction is clear: The Cervelo hardtail is designed for cross-country racetracks. While full-suspension models have increasingly become the means of choice here in recent years, the hardtail is and remains the best option on some routes. Unsurprisingly, Cervelo uses 29” wheels and a sporty but not too extreme geometry for the ZHT-5.

The Cervelo ZHT-5 comes standard with a rigid seatpost. Thanks to the 30.9mm seat tube, there’s also plenty of room to fit a high-travel variable seatpost. The cable routing also offers this option. As you’ve seen more and more lately, all cables run directly through the headset to the inside of the frame. This ensures on the one hand a very sleek look and on the other hand it is also good news for everyone who likes to replace the headset bearings. Much more pleasing and service-friendly is the fact that Cervelo uses a bolt-on bottom bracket on the ZHT-5, despite the focus on lightweight construction.

Even when dirty, the internally guided lines that run through the headset should ensure a clean look

With a 69° head angle and a reach of 457mm in size L, the Cervelo ZHT-5 is on the more conservative end of the XC spectrum – are Cervelo’s racing roots noticeable here? The rear measures 430mm in all sizes, while the seat angle measures 74°. Depending on the frame size, the stacking values are between 606 and 636 mm. The ZHT-5 is available in four sizes from S to XL.
