In the past eight months of 2022, Honor of Kings has grossed more than $1.3 billion, making it the highest grossing mobile game in the world. Tencent’s MOBA mega-hit PUBG Mobile also racked up 273 million downloads this year and more than $8 billion in revenue since its release.

Mobile games reach $149 billion in revenue this year, reaching more than 1.6 billion people

The rising sales of the best-selling smartphone games shows how fast the entire market is growing. According to the Statista research, mobile games are expected to generate $149 billion in revenue this year, compared to $140 billion last year. About 60 percent of this revenue, or nearly $90 billion, is generated in the two largest markets, China and the United States.

Average revenue per player is expected to increase 16 percent year-over-year from $78.18 to $91.27. However, Statista expects the number of people playing games on their smartphones to fall by 10 percent this year to 1.63 billion. The decline in the SARS-2 CoVID-19 corona pandemic will be partly responsible for this trend.

Nevertheless, the entire industry will continue to grow in the coming years and the number of mobile gamers will increase to more than 1.8 billion by 2026.
