Hamburger SV lost two points, but defended the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga – thanks to Robert Glatzel, HSV remains in the lead. For 1. FC Kaiserslautern, more was possible than the draw, but so was Hamburg on Saturday evening (October 8, 2022).

In the end the 1:1 (1:0) went fine. Hamburg started the game with a lot of dominance, after fifteen minutes the home team had 81 percent of the ball. The Lauterers had their first big chance: Terrence Boyd headed wide of HSV’s goal in the 22nd minute.

Luthe slips when conceding a goal

Then the otherwise reliable FCK keeper helped the Hamburgers: Andreas Luthe bounced off a tap from Sonny Kittel and hit Robert Glatzel’s knee trying to clear – he couldn’t defend against his seventh goal of the season (24th).

But de Lauterer remained an extremely uncomfortable and dangerous guest, especially in Boyd’s person. The Hamburg defense never got the ex-Leipziger under control, but the strong striker missed too many opportunities. His neighbor Kenny Redondo was also a constant source of trouble, but had the same problem as Boyd – the latter consequence ultimately failed.

Raab saves in the fog

Curiously shortly after the restart: As the Lauterer curve flared pyros, the stadium was submerged in dense fog – but referee Robert Hartmann initially let play go on. Another great opportunity from Boyd, who stormed alone towards Matheo Raab after a mistake by Heyer, was barely recognizable, but the Hamburg keeper saved with a spectacular foot reflex. Incidentally, Hartmann probably didn’t give the corner due to a lack of visibility – but then interrupted for a few minutes until the fog cleared.

Again Redondo had the equalizer shortly afterwards, but after a solo shot just wide of the left corner. Luthe then recovered well from his 0:1 mistake and made strong saves against Glatzel in the 70th and 77th minute.

Kittel awards the match point

And Luthe even became the savior of the draw. In the 80th minute, HSV received a match point after video evidence: Ludovit Reis was clearly put in the penalty area for a foul by Robin Bormuth, but Hartmann did not whistle at first. Thanks to the VAR, the penalty was still awarded, but Sonny Kittel was saved by the Lauter goalkeeper who made a spectacular save.

In direct exchange, the fee decreased. Redondo was again too quick for the Hamburg defense on the left, his pass brought FCK joker Lex-Tyger Lobinger into the far corner to make it 1-1. And the post continued: Both teams tried to score the winning goal until the seventh minute of stoppage time, but the lucky punch neither Lautern nor HSV succeeded.
