Bremen, away from home without defeat, moved up to fourth in the rankings for at least a day, passing Hoffenheim as well.

Skov brings instant momentum

Werder Bremen changed the jersey color from green to salmon compared to the 5-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, but the starting eleven remained the same. At Hoffenheim, coach André Breitenreiter relied on Robert Skov instead of Pavel Kadeřábek after the 1-1 draw at Hertha BSC.

The move worked well, with Skov making promising runs down the right wing in the first few minutes. However, both his shots went wide of the left post.

Hoffenheim then remained the more active and better team. But the guests showed why they had previously scored twelve runs from eight games as a newly promoted team.

Vulkan in a double pass with Ducksch

They also took the lead and once again involved someone who had been talked and written about a lot over the past week. Should national coach Hansi Flick take striker Niclas Füllkrug to the World Cup, who tops the World Cup scorers list with seven goals? That was the question that was discussed, and it continues to correct itself.

However, it could be expanded to include the aspect of whether Marvin Ducksch should also go along. In any case, the two Bremer strikers get along very well. That became clear with Werder’s opening goal, who scored Ducksch with a deliberate low shot into the corner after a one-two with a pitcher (18′).

Dabbur scores to equalize

Ducksch would rather not have been involved in the second goal of the evening. But it was he who launched the counterattack, who rounded out Munas Dabbur with a lob over Jiří Pavlenka to make it 1-1 (32′).

The match provided good entertainment for the 20,000 spectators in the first half and that remained so after the break. Again a Hoffenheimer got the first two chances, this time it was Christoph Baumgartner. His first shot missed, the second was blocked by Pavlenka.

Vogt’s straddle in dire need

The level dropped in the last half hour of the game, but the willingness of both teams to take three points was clear. Bremen came close to victory for the first time when Ducksch finished on a counter-attack in the penalty area. Kevin Vogt blocked the ball with a tackle (79′).

A tackle against Mitchell Weiser was fatal to Stanley N’Soki, as the Bremen man fell after walking one step after contact. Referee Benjamin Cortus allowed play to continue, but watched the scene on the monitor and awarded a penalty. Füllkrug scored the eighth goal of the season. Hansi Flick saw him live in the stadium.

Hoffenheim on Schalke, Bremen welcomes Mainz
